The Health Services Purchasing Coalition (HSPC) was established in 1998 to combat environmental changes in the delivery and cost of hospital care. Las Vegas had experienced a consolidation of hospital systems, which in turn reduced competition in the market. In addition, most health plans were reporting double digit increases annually in relation to inpatient and outpatient hospital care. Along with the rising cost of care and reduced competition, members were experiencing quality issues. In 2000 the HSPC became incorporated in the State of Nevada and was designated a non-profit corporation in 2001. In 2005 the Coalition Board approved a name change to reflect strategic goals of improving quality in addition to volume purchasing or Hospital contracting initiatives. The name was changed to the Health Services Coalition (HSC). |
