REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL
|
During the 2010 hospital contract negotiations, the Health Services Coalition (HSC) has been working diligently to better align the cost of health care for our members with the quality of the care they receive. Nationally, most agree that implementing meaningful change in the delivery of medical care is challenged by the current methods of payment, including payment for hospital care and other ancillary healthcare services. Today, hospitals and physicians are frequently paid not on the quality of services or their effectiveness in improving a patient’s health, but instead on the quantity of patients seen and services provided. Moreover, under current payment systems, hospitals and physicians may actually incur financial penalties for providing better quality services and/or reducing unnecessary utilization. To that end, the HSC issued a request for proposal in April with the hope of beginning a dialogue aimed at improving the health care system in Las Vegas.
