The Organization
|
Organizations participating in the HSC pay dues based on the number of employees they represent. They must commit in writing (via a Participation Agreement) to the Coalition’s dual goals of achieving affordable rates and introducing accountability for the quality of care into the process. Each year the Board of Directors of the HSC collectively agree on new programs to tackle in an effort to increase the quality and delivery of health care to the plan participants. The HSC has also taken an active role in supporting legislative initiatives that would improve the cost and quality of health care. This includes supporting bills that expanded dentist licensing in Nevada (bill passed), controlled costs to plans and members using non-contracted hospitals in an emergency (bill failed), and most recently supported a bill requiring enhanced transparency of hospital and out-patient ancillary facility costs (bill passed). The HSC is currently an active member of the National Business Group in Health Care and a state representative of the National Leapfrog Initiative. By networking nationally through these affiliations and being active in our local community, the HSC strives to accomplish its mission “to purchase high-quality, cost-effective health care services for its members by working with healthcare providers and community leaders”. The HSC has also introduced several Health Plan concepts, tools, projects, and resources to help members better manage their plans. This has been accomplished through guest lectures, educational programs and subcommittees on a variety of issues or topics. |
